Answers to common questions about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, and Revive.
-
Do I need previous experience to participate? No, we offer instruction to all levels of experience. No previous experience is needed to join any of the classes, but our fundamentals BJJ class is a great place to learn the basics if you're new.
-
Do I need to have a certain level of fitness to start? No, all levels of fitness are encouraged to participate. You will gain strength and conditioning while learning the sport. Our instructors respect each person's fitness level and will never push you out of your comfort zone.
-
What should I wear to my first class and what equipment do I need?If you are brand new to the martial arts, just wear comfortable gym clothes (no metal). Most people wear shorts and a t-shirt. If you have prior experience and you have your own equipment (i.e. Jiu-Jitsu uniform, boxing gloves, etc.), just bring what you have and the instructor will let you know what you will need for class that day.
-
Do you offer any type of kids martial arts?Yes! We have a robust kids BJJ program here at Revive. Our kids coaching staff bring a plethora of experience to the table. Your kid will be in an environment where they will be built up and make new friends along the way; all while learning to defend themselves. Kids can begin Jiu Jitsu at 3-years-old! Our youngest class ranges from 3-5. Then, our next age group is 6-10. We also offer teens classes for 11-13.
-
Can I watch a class before participating?Yes! If you feel more comfortable seeing what our classes are like before participating, feel free to come watch first. We have a sitting area with benches, water fountains, and restrooms where you can make yourself at home while observing class. On the other hand, if you would like to try class on your first visit, you are welcome to do that as well, and we will help you settle right in.
-
What is a typical class like? Our classes begin with a warm up, followed by instruction and drilling of new moves, and usually end with live sparring/rolling. The instructor will monitor and help you drill the moves correctly until you are able to perform them without help.
-
Should I bring a friend?Yes, friends and family are always encouraged to come in as well. Sometimes people feel more comfortable trying something new when they have a friend to partner up with. However, you are more than welcome to come by yourself and make new friends in our welcoming environment.
